1» Hydro bills soar way more than 20% due to climate change

Ontarians are finding out they may not be able to handle the august hydro bills ,  often double or triple the normal amount, not due to just the 20% fee hike and debt repayment, but due to the increased usage of kW-h due to extremely hot and humid weather and air conditioning.  My personal bill went up from $80 to $324 then this month to $614,  some people on fixed incomes will definately not be able to handle this kind of rise, and might be forced out of their homes onto the street or to apartments,  or out of apartments to the street or tent cities like in Victoria (covered on CBC radio news recently).These people need help to stay where they live.Most of this change is due to climate change and CO2 in the atmosphere and fossil fuel usage.www.si

The most moving and inspiring event I' ve encountered in almost 3 decades of working on green issues is the Awakeing the Dreamer, Changing the Dream symposium.www.awakeningthedreamer.orgIt arises with the Achuar people of the Amazon side of Ecuador - an intact indigenous culture that had not had outside exposure until the 1970s.  Upon seeing the devastation caused by the extraction industries in their region, they correctly surmised that any culture capapble of such destruction must be so completely cut off from reality that they're living in a dream or trance. (Psychiatrists have a diagnosis for that and it's called psychosis).But being a warrior culture, they took it upon themselves to awaken the dreamer, for they knew it was not just their lands that were in danger, but the life carrying capacity of Pachamama, Mother Earth, herself. The friends of canadian broadcasting are supporting CBC against Harpers intent to curtail that institutions art and culture influence on canadians.Rupert and Stephen are trying to create Fox News North modelled after fox news in the US which is mostly yelling and uncomfortable sound bites of the extreme right.Markos of DailyKos.com has written a book called the American Taliban,  and how close the extreme right of the States are to the supposed enemy in Afghanistan,  in terms of their control freakish attitude,  their obsession with sex, sin and hypocrisy and mysoginy.  Einstein said its incredible how really big contradictions can lie side by side in the human mind,  the extreme right typifies this model.Lets support CBC,  and along with Avaaz,  lets help Finkelstein at CRTC limit Stephen and Ruperts conspiracy theory to prey on our peace of mind.They want the taxpayer to cover the cost of Fox News North.  Lets send them a

7» Vaughan, Ontario will have a by-election

My beautiful city and home of Vaughan, Ontario will have a by-election, following the resignation of Maurizio Bevilacqua, former liberal incumbant. Living in Vaughan for almost a decade, I could never reconcile why this riding is such a liberal stronghold, and why our green constituency is so small. Vaughan is a beautiful city with a rich history and heritage. It is home to one of my favourite art galleries in Canada, the McMichael art collection in Kleinburg, featuring the famous works of the group of seven. In true Canadian spirit, the collection and special exhibition is the only major Ontario gallery to be 100% Canadian. Canada Constitution 1982 notion freedom of expression and hate speech criminal code provisions exist.   Are forms of expression in contradiction with Canada's notion of freedom and has legislation been thoroughly tested against scrutiny.  Astounding that an individual could face criminal prosecution for expression that comes out of his or her voice or what he or she expresses.  Some could argue singing or poetry or visual art could be determined offensive enough to be considered hate speech?While recognizing definition of freedom varies from cultural perspective and urban and rural definitions of what may be deemed offensive should also be taken to consideration.While police powers seem to grow we recognize individual sub-culture define freedom differently within context of Canada.
